Meet the Farmer
I founded The Crooked Carrot after more than two decades of hands-on farming, soil-building, and a deep passion for helping people grow their own food. As a longtime Arizona farmer and compost enthusiast, I’ve worked with a wide range of growing methods—including organic, no-till, regenerative, aeroponics, and aquaponics—and have developed strong expertise in food safety and sustainable agriculture.
My fascination with ecology and natural systems drives everything I do. I’m continually inspired by the idea that we, as humans, can have a positive impact on the planet—and our own health—by working with nature rather than against it.
I’m trained by the Soil Food Web School in soil biology, compost teas, and both small- and large-scale biological compost production. I also hold a B.S. in Environmental Science and have formal experience in food safety.
The Crooked Carrot is the result of this journey—a resource built to support home gardeners in creating healthier soil, growing better food, and reconnecting with the natural systems that sustain us.
Our Roots
The Crooked Carrot began as my organic farm in Queen Creek back in 2000. I paused operations in 2007 to manage another farm, where I continued to build my experience in farming and composting—especially during my five years managing the Arizona Worm Farm. In 2022, I brought The Crooked Carrot back to life as a resource for home gardeners, with a focus on healthy soil and natural food-growing practices. Continuing with my belief in working with nature, not against it, I emphasize the use of compost, worm castings, and other biological amendments. While these materials occur naturally in thriving ecosystems, in cultivated spaces like farms and gardens, it's up to us to support and accelerate those biological processes.
